A State ban on corporal punishment is up before the state house education committee. The committee canceled a meeting Tuesday to discuss an update, because some committee members are uncomfortable about the total prohibition of corporal punishment in schools.
Some legislators feel that paddling in school is a rarity, but it is effective when used properly, and don’t feel right banning it altogether.
***Editor's Note - I don't think any area school do use corporal punishment any more. I remember when I was in Junior High at Port Allegany, paddling was making it's last stance.
