The Allegheny National Forest will undergo an assessment of its management
practices, which could lead to improved management and long-term viability
of forest lands.
SmartWood and PriceWaterhouseCoopers will
review the forest management plan and other relevant documents as well as
carry out field visits to evaluate how well the forest's management
practices measure up to the standards of the two certification systems.
Part of the review will include a public meeting.
The assessment will begin later this fall and take nearly a year to
complete. A final report is expected next summer.
