Coudersport banded together to support one of their own Sunday. Six hundred and twenty people, most from Coudersport, some from as far as Buffalo, filed through the Coudersport Fire Hall to take part in a benefit dinner for Brittany Krog.

Krog, is known as a hero in Coudersport. She lost her leg and much of the use of one of her arms as a result of injuries sustained earlier this month. As she stood along the Main Street Bridge awaiting the Potter County Bicentennial Parade, earlier this month, an out of control car collided with her, throwing her into the flood channel.

Krog’s aunt, Roxy Boyd, told the Bradford Era last night that the other girl injured in the accident, 9 year old Sara Bucholz, told the family that the 15-year-old pushed her out of the way before the impact; the younger girl received only minor injuries.

Krog isn’t the only hero in Coudersport, though. The Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department, who rushed into the water to rescue Krog the day of the accident, came to the rescue again. The firefighters and the Ladies’ Auxiliary hosted a spaghetti dinner from noon until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, and raised over $3,000 to give to the Krog family.

Fire Chief Bryan Phelps said friends and family members rolled up their sleeves as well to make the event a success. Over 20 volunteers served over 620 people throughout the course of the day.

Meanwhile, Coudersport Borough Police continue to investigate the accident. The driver of the vehicle, Gary Meacham, of Coudersport, reportedly lost control of the vehicle while having a seizure. As he sped through the Water and Main Street intersection, jumped the curb, and rammed Krog through the bridge railing, his vehicle landed several car lengths away from the bridge, having rolled over at least one full turn. Police have not yet substantiated any reason for criminal charges. Since the incident is still under investigation, officials have remained slightly tight lipped.

Krog is currently in Nittany Valley Rehab Center, and according to her aunt, adjusting quite well. “She’s a fighter,” said Boyd.

“The family has to travel so far back and forth to see her,” said Alice Hoffman, a member of the Coudersport Fire Ladies Auxilliary, as she scrubbed up the kitchen after the dinner. “I think this is really great, what everyone did for them.”

Cards and flowers can be sent to Brittany Krog at Nittany Valley Rehab Center, 550 West College Avenue, Room 316, Pleasant Gap, PA 16823.
