Roulette’s ATV Ordinance is under fire. Supervisors voted last month to
repeal the ordinance, but Supervisor George Baker says it’s not quite that
simple.

The Supervisors agreed that the abuse of the ordinance and the liability of
the township were the major factors in the decision.

“The trail needs to be spelled out a little better than it has been. It’s
supposed to give ATV riders that ability to ride on a township road to get
from one trail to the other,” said Baker.

What has happened though, is that ATV enthusiasts have become a traffic
hazard in town. Baker said, “Now, it’s become an alternate means of
transportation.”

In order to repeal an ordinance, the ordinance change must follow the same
procedure it traveled to become enacted, with advertising in local
newspapers and public comment.

Baker said he’s in favor of allowing ATV’s to use township roads, but wants
to see a more signs and clarity in how the ordinance is to work.
