A Port Allegany man faces charges for alleged child abuse. 20-year-old Timothy Maben was charged with abusing his infant son, less than 6 months old. According to reports, the infant is experiencing blindness and deafness from excessive shaking and rough handling. Maben was arrested Friday and placed in Jail in lieu of 5 thousand dollars bail with a court order to stay away from the infant.

i want to know where was the mother when this was happening...and don't you think a mother would have noticed if her child was being abused? i feel the both of them should be charged with child abuse..let us know what your comments are on this unthinkable act of child abuse...this child has to live the rest of his life without ever seeing a thing...

I can't believe that parents ( if that is what they are ) could do or let this happen to an innocent child. They have no right to have children and should be fixed so they can't. Would they like it if they had to live the rest of their lives without seeing or hearing, I dont think so. There is no punishment harsh enough for this act.

I think its safe to say that this man is still innocent until proven guilty.

If he IS guilty, which we won't know until a lengthy court process, then yes, the questions should be asked.

In the case of Arlene Haines, mother of Serena Powell. (the Potter County 2 year old allegedly murdered by her mother's boyfriend), Police charged her with "endangering the welfare of children" because she allowed Clinton Watson to live in her home.

The kicker though, is the way the charges were worded. They could be a threat to many families.

THe charges say she endangered her children by allowing Watson to live with her though she knew that Watson had "spanked" the children.

Personally, I wish the charges had been stated differently, because those charges set a court precedent that could violate the rights of many parent sto effectively discipline their children.

That is not to say that any mother who allows her children to be ABUSED (with emphasis placed on the diffrence between abuse and discipline.) to be held accountable.

I think the mother is just as responsible as the man who commited this crime. How could you let someone do this to your children, and you just stand there and let it happen. I'm sorry that is not right. I think this is an eye for an eye, and ear for and ear situation. For both of the parents. And they should both do jail time, and the child should go to a family who actually loves it. I hope that someday all of this comes back and really bites those two in the butt hard.

I THINK THE MOM SHOULD BE CHARGED WITH THE SAME THING THAT THE MEN THAT DID THIS THING TO THAT POOR CHILD...IF YOU WANT TO CALL HIM A MAN FOR ABUSE A CHILD....YOU CAN'T CALL HIM A MAN NO MAN WOULD BEAT UP SOMEONE THAT COULDN'T FIGHT BACK.HE SHOULD BE LOCKED IN A ROOM AND LET SOMEONE BET ON HIM FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS.
