Port Allegany School Board decided last night to OPT OUT of the Act 72 legislation. Board members secured the decision with a 5-2 vote. Former school board member Gary Hardes spoke up before the vote in favor of the tax relief legislation, pointing out that 80 percent of the community does not have kids in school, and tax relief would only be fair.
Those that voted to opt in, and those that voted to opt out agreed that the legislation proposed by Governor Ed Rendell to shore down taxes by pulling in gambling funds was “shoddy”.
