Governor Ed Rendell has released a portion of the state funds allocated for the rehabilitation of Kinzua Bridge State Park. About one million in state capital budget funds have been released to be used for planning and design of the project, which will include stabilization of the remaining structures of the Kinzua Viaduct, as well as a park clean up and the construction of a new interpretive center and museum. This one million is part of seven million dollars set aside as part of last year’s budget to be used for the project.
County lawmakers have been begging the governor for the full seven million for months now.
The county lost an estimated seven million in revenue last year when only 32 thousand people visited the Bridge, down from 188 thousand in 1999.
