A Bradford man will appear in Court on charges stemming from a suicide attempt in August. 37 year old Chrisopher Ausherman appeared before District Judge Christ Hauser on charges of aggravated assault and public drunkenness. City Police responded to a to a bridge on August 12. Officers say Ausherman was on the bridge with a phone cord tied around his neck, as he threatened to jump off.

When police tried to subdue the man, he punched Sergeant Mike Simanoswki three times in the face.

Ausherman is in jail in lieu of 20 thousand dollars bail.

I find this a horrible situation. how can you charge a man with aggravated assualt when attempting suicide? Wouldnt it be more appropriate to put him in a mental health care facility, not in court for punching the officer? Isnt that one of the risks as a cop when dealing with someone whos mentally ill??

If he really was mentaly ill and wanted to commit suicide he would have done it in his own home or some where not in public! He obviously was crying out for attention and wanted to be stopped!! And would have used more than a cord! Come on lets be real!! Judge obviosly seen thru that and thats why he charged him with aggravated assualt! And not just for hitting a cop but for assualting a PERSON!! Enough said!
