Wildfire Near Gaines

100 acres of Potter County woods were damaged Friday. An air tanker was called in to fight the woodland fire, dropping thousands of gallons of water. Galeton Fire fighters say the air tanker was a big advantage in fighting the fire, which started just north of Gaines, probably by a carelessly discarded cigarette, tossed by a turkey hunter.
60 firefighters from Galeton, Wellsboro, Coudersport, Middlebury, Chatham Township, Clymer Township and Westfield responded.
