John Rigas and his son Timothy have had a new indictment opened in
Williamsport Friday. The founder of Adelphia Communications and his son
failed to pay taxes on $300 million in taxable income. According to the
indictment, John owes almost $53 million while Timothy owes more than $84
million in taxes. Other family members are named in the indictment as well.
Michael Rigas owes $87 million, James Rigas owes $77 million and Ellen Rigas
owes $15 million on income they failed to report. John and Timothy Rigas
were each charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud the U.S.
government and separate tax evasion violations for 1998, 1999 and 2000.
