Two Clarion County Jail inmates escaped Saturday and were on the loose for
about 10 hours before being apprehended in the New Bethlehem and East Brady
areas.
Two 18-year-olds eluded police for about 10 hours after escaping from
Clarion County Jail Saturday night.

Two jail inmates in Clarion County escaped Saturday, and eluded police for
about 10 hours.

Officials say 18-year-old David Fabiszewski of Parker may have been
motivated by the death of his father, because he asked for a furlough to be
with his family, and it was denied.
18-year-old Nathan G. Watkins of New Bethlehem escaped with Fabiszewski.
Officials say the men gained access to the roof of the county prison, then
jumped either over or onto a razor wire-topped fence.
After being captured, Watkins was treated at Clarion Hospital for cuts he
allegedly got from the razor wire. Fabiszewski was treated for an ankle
injury he allegedly suffered while jumping from the prison roof.
The men are both jailed on unrelated burglary charges. Charges are pending
in relation to the escape.
The Clarion County Sheriff’s office is investigating the possibility someone
outside the prison might have helped the men escape.
The men were last seen shortly after the escape near Wolf’s Auto Outlet in
their prison clothes. They were found in street clothes.
Clarion County Chief deputy Sheriff Barry Troutman said the inmates’ orange
prison shirts were found near a Paint Township trailer park.
Police used scent detection dogs from the St. Marys area, but say the trail
ended abruptly in a parking lot, leading them to believe someone was waiting
for them there.
When police spotted them, they set up a roadblock, which Fabiszewski avoided
by driving off the main road, and onto a narrow dirt road, where he hit a
pallet that got stuck under the truck he was driving and stopped the
vehicle.
He was then taken into custody. While that chase was going on, a Clarion
County sheriff’s deputy found Watkins hiding in a storage shed and he was
arrested.
