Negotiators working on the Defense Appropriations bill say they're working
on an exemption that would allow Jamie Himes Dana to keep her dog.

US Senator John Warner says an exemption to the statute that prohibited dog
adoptions for military canines that still have usefulness left.

That wording will allow for the unprecedented adoption of Rex the german
shepherd by his Hazel Hurst handler.

Dana was injured when a bomb blast rocked her vehicle in Iraq.
