Black Bears Waking Up

Pennsylvania Game commission warns that the state’s 15,000 black bears are waking up as the warmer weather continues and will be on a hunt for food.

Food for bears is typically scarce in the spring until vegetation begins to green-up, but bears emerging from dens need to find food after fasting for several months.

Game Commission officials suggest residents to not feed wildlife, keep garbage inside until pick up day and avoid throwing scraps into the back y eard.
It’s also a good idea to keep a safe distance from any bears that may wander near.
