A Ulysses man has earned a medal for Bravery for his service in Irq. Kyle Kalasnik was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat V for his service in Iraq. Kalasnik is a Marine Corporal.
Kalasnik ordered his platoon to stay covered during an insurgent attack in Ramadi. He then ventured out to take on a group of insurgents that were using a nearby house to shoot machine guns at the base. Kalasnik single-handedly took out several insurgents, resulting in a entire squadron to pull out of their positions..Kalasnik is currently in artillery training in Camp Pendleton, and he will be returning for a third tour in Iraq in August or September.
