Keystone Powdered Metals of St. Mary's, along with Penn State University,
will receive one million dollars to develop gears for vehicle transmissions,
if the Defense Appropriations Bills is approved by the US Senate.

Congressman John Peterson is pleased that his defense-related priorities
were well funded in 2006

He says Keystone Powdered Metals is a priority because the production of
powder metal steel gears requires fewer raw materials, less energy, and
reduced amounts of labor in comparison to traditional metal gears they are
becoming the component of choice for all military and commercial vehicle
transmission applications.
