State Police in Coudersport have issued further charges in relationship to Shawn Crowner of Ulysses. Police announced yesterday that charged had been filed against the 30 year old man several months after he called state Police to tell them he had a sawed off shotgun. Crowner was listed as a victim of harrassment in an incident last week, when Crowner was verbally threatened at a convenience store in Ulysses.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission is issuing a warning to out of state hunters about firewood imports. Officials say imported firewood often brings diseases and pests that are deadly to local trees.
The commissions biggest concern is the Emerald Ash Borer, an insect that could wipe out Pennsylvania Ash Trees.
State Police have filed charges against a Genesee business owner for false burglar alarms. Lorentz Hinrichsen , owner of the former Riverbend Inn building was charged after police responded to four “at fault” false alarms within one year.
Michael Rigas will face a retrial for securities fraud. A Federal judge announced Tuesday that the son of Adelphia founder John Rigas will face the charges again in court. Michael Rigas’ criminal trial ended in a mistrial in July.
State Police sent an unusual press release this week. Police say that on May 22 of this year, Shawn Crowner of Genesee called Police to tell them he had a sawed off shotgun. Charges were filed this week with the district Justice. State Police Trooper Chris Boch says the investigation has taken until now in order to file charges. He couldn't comment on the length of the investigation, or why Crowner called to tell police he had the prohibited offensive weapon.
State Police say Amy Proctor of Coudersport is charged with harrassment after an incident Saturday in Sweden Township. Proctor allegedly grabbed Sherri Berne of Smethport by the shirt and swung her around.
State Police report that Robert Childs of Sartwell Creek Road reported a burglary at his residence. Unknown thieves reportedly removed various toolboxes and hand tools sometime between September 9 and October 29.

Someone took a Chevy Malibu for a joy ride in Harrison Valley. State Police report that unknown actors took the Malibu from Baer’s Autobody Used Cars after midnight on October 30, returning the car before daylight, but retaining the keys. Police continue to investigate.
A Port Allegany couple was involved in a Potter County Crash over the weekend. 58-year-old Joanne Jaros was taken to Charles Cole Memorial Hospital and treated for moderate injuries when she lost control of her vehicle and struck the guardrails along Route 6. She was cited for driving under unsafe speeds, and her passenger, 62 year old William Jaros, who was not injured in the crash, was cited for restrictions on Alcoholic Beverages.
State Police in Coudersport have released their statistics for the month of October. Officers responded to 25 vehicle crashes, three of which were hit and run. 16 people were injured in Potter County crashes, and 4 drivers were charged with DUI. 80 criminal offenses were reported, 77 of which were founded. 25 criminal arrests were made. Officers issued 46 warnings, and wrote out 135 traffic citations.
Contrary to reports heard over emergency radio frequencies, no trains have derailed in Eldred. McKean County 911 dispatch received a call that a train had derailed this morning, but when officials arrived at the scene, they discovered that everything was fine.
State Police picked up John Harmon of Genesee for inapropriate use of his
spotlight last week. While looking for deer, Harmon shined his light into
buildings owned by Ronald Silsby. of Cobb Hill Road in Genessee.
Silsby then confronted Harmon, making personal threats. Silsby is charged
with harrassment.
State Police are checking out a reported theft from a camp in Wharton
Township. Unknown suspects removed a copy of "gerald's Book of Herbal" from
a camp belonging to Richard Lee McLain of Calvin, PA. No worn on what
motivated a thief to finger a book of herbal remedies.
The teen injured in Coudersport just moments before the Potter County Bicentennial Parade wrote a letter to the Editor of the Potter Leader Enterprise.
15 year old Brittany Krog says, "This is a really, really, really bad thing that has happened to me. I just don't know how to put into words how I feel. But I think I am going to pull through this and I am trying my hardest with everything I do. The nurses say I am doing great for everything that has happened to me. Which is a good thing!"

A Potter County man was picked up by St. Marys Police Sunday Night. John Kennedy of Austin was arrested for disorderly conduct and public drunkenness after allegedly exiting his vehicle and striking the window of another vehicle. Police warned Kennedy to stop his disorderly behavior on several locations, and Kennedy allegedly continued his tirade. He was arraigned and committed to Elk County Prison.
A Shinglehouse woman has been the victim of criminal mischief this weekend. On Friday, sometime between 2 and 5 p.m., someone cut down two decorative trees on the property of 43-year old Paula Mertsock. Anyone with information is asked to contact State Police in Coudersport.
A Coudersport woman is charged with stealing money from a nursing home resident. State Police report that 45 year old Susan Rotino was charged with theft for stealing money from Marcia Majot of Shinglehouse, and from Sweden Valley Manor itself between March 6 and March 9th of 2004.
Austin residents lost power this week after a substation fuse blew out at an exchnge between Allegany Power and Penelec in Roulette, where crews had been working. Roulette resident were without power for a little while while Penelec workers made adjustments to the system. Roulette Fire Copmpany was called out to respond to a transfomer blaze near the fire station. And most Roulette residents reported flickering lights and power during the incident. Officials from both both power companies say the situation has been remedied.
Tempers weren’t the only things flaring up in a Potter County domestic dispute. State Police report that 24-year-old Justin Houghtaling started small fires in the living room curtains and on the bed in the master bedroom during an argument with his wife. Houghtaling made threats to burn the house down. He was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.
