A Smethport man will see jail time on receiving stolen property charges.
22-year-old David Gallup will serve 60 days to a year, and pay restitution
to Southern Tier Polaris for the stolen item.

Charges are pending against Gallup for allegedly harassing a witness via
computer communication, though his attorney says the charges can't be
authenticated.

Brian Gustafson is recovering, according to Smethport Borough Police.

The 33 year old owner of Priority Care Ambulance accidentally shot himself
last week, with the bullet lodging in his back, just left of his
shoulderblade.

Police Chief Bryan Yingling says Gustafson was carrying a registered 22
caliber handgun that fell out of his pocket and hit the ground.

Yingling says tests on the gun show it could accidentally discharge even if
dropped from only five inches off the ground.

A Connellsville man was arrested in Coudersport Thursday for disorderly
conduct. Police say Matthew McKnight went to the parking lot of Diamond Auto
Glass, and urinated on the property. Charges are pending.

The groundbreaking for the new Seneca Allegany Casino and Hotel will start
at Noon Saturday.

The new hotel and casino are expected to create about 450 new jobs.

It will cost more then 15 million dollars to repair and renovate the
buildings at the Kane Are school district. A report prepared by Habiterra
Architecture of Warren shows what changes and revisions need to be made to
the four school buildings in Kane and Mt. Jewett to bring deteriorated

Sheriff's Deputies in Cattaraugus County have released the details in
yesterday's crash at the intersection of Route 219 and Bailey Road.

39 year old John Haight of Mt. Jewett was operating a tractor trailer along
Route 219 when 26 year old Andrew Dixon cut across the highway in front of
Haight's truck.

Dixon suffered head injuries and he's in critical condition at Erie County
Medical Center.

Wycoff Run in Cameron County is known for it's accidents when winter hits.
63-year-old Jerry Hubler of Sinnemahoning was hurt when his truck went out
of control on the slushy, snow-covered road, then hit an embankment and a
culvert.
Hubler was taken to Elk Regional Health Center with back pain.
State Police say the truck was severely damaged.

An Austin man is accused of raping a 12-year-old girl, according to state
police. 45-year-old Timothy Butler has been charged with several different
sex crimes in the incident, which allegedly occurred in July.

State Police are investigating the case, after the dissolution of the Austin
Police force.

A Cyclone woman called State Troopers to say someone removed a personal
check from her checkbook, and cashed it at the bank without her permission
on October 11.

Angeline Wareham did not know who took the check. State Police are

Wednesday on charges of tax evasion, Court documents allege the father son
duo, already convicted on fraud and conspiracy charges, failed to report
hundreds of millions of dollars of income.

A preliminary report from the October 7 fatal helicopter crash has been
released by the National Transportation Safety Board

The medical helicopter that dropped into a wooded area near Lindhome road
was destroyed by fire and pieces were scattered across a circular 180-foot
area.

Safety Investigator Brian Raynor doesn't say exactly what caused the crash,
but says all of the chopper's pieces were recovered from the scene, though
they were melted, smashed, burned, and scattered.

The crash claimed the life of Erie Lifestar Pilot Heinz Shults.

An Eldred man died yesterday as a result of a gunshot wound along West
Eldred Road. 42-year-old Ivan Hakes succumbed to the wound.
Emergency radio reports yesterday indicated the gunshot wound was
accidental, and that it happened while Hakes was chasing a horse, though
those reports have not been confirmed at this time.

Police continue to investigate, and an autopsy is scheduled for today.

PennDot secretary Allen Beeler says his crews are ready for winter weather.

He says PennDOT has 5 thousand crew members, who will work with more than 22
hundred snow plows and more than 6 hundred other trucks.

Convicted kidnapper and rapist Thomas Slater will serve less time in the
pen. Slater's sentence was reduced as President Judge John Cleland revisited
the sentencing for two counts of spousal sexual abuse, admitting that he
erred.

Slater's minimum sentence was reduced by one month, and his maximum sentence
by two years and eight months.

Slater was arrested in Kansas after keeping his wife captive for almost a
month.

Bradford Township and the City of Bradford have decided to drop their
lawsuits against the Solid Waste Authority.

The SWA and the municipalities met with President Judge John Cleland as a
mediator all day Tuesday, trying to work out the legal issues over money
paid by the city and township to the landfill.

The SWA agreed to pay back some of the money.

A Partial refund of nearly 190 thousand will be paid to the city, and more
than 77 thousand to the township as part of the 86 dollar a ton-tipping fee.

The McKean County Jail is overcrowded

That's County Commissioner John Egbert, who offered a solution to that
problem, by entering into a contract with BI Incorporated to use the
EXACUTRACT system.

The Ankle bracelet service will track people on work release.
The deal should help control the prison population by giving the court a
better house arrest option.

The monitoring system will also help keep track of work release inmates,
considering that more than once this year, jail inmates have walked off the
job and fled the state.

The wintry weather is to blame for a few accidents this morning.
State police in Kane say Ronald Thomson of Bradford was eastbound on Route
646 when his car went out of control on the slippery road. The car spun,
left the road and hit a utility pole.
Police say Thompson was wearing his seatbelt and wasn't hurt.
23-year-old Brent Douglas Morgan of Sugar Grove was driving his pickup truck
on Route 59 this morning when it went out of control on the snow-covered
roadway, spun and slid off the road.
Police say Morgan did not need medical treatment.
Andrew Kloss of Gifford was eastbound on Route 646 when his car went out of
control on the slushy road. His car also hit a utility pole.
Kloss wasn't hurt, but his car received major damage.
Gerald Irwin of Bradford was traveling west on Route 146 when his
tractor-trailer was hit by a truck driven by Louis Millard of St. Marys.
Millard's truck traveled off the road before coming to rest in a ditch.
The drivers were not injured.
Police say the investigation is continuing

28-year-old Jason Stine of Roulette is in Potter County Jail on 75 thousand
dollars bond following an arraignment on charges of rape, statutory sexual
assault, endangering the welfare of a child and corruption of minors.

Police say the charges are related to a report of sexual abuse of a 7 year
old girl that started more than a year ago.

A Duke Center man was arrested in Olean along Rock City Hill for driving
without a registration.

22 year old Michael Coast was taken into custody, and his vehicle was towed,
because the registration sticker had expired.

Coast was released on his own recognizance.

The Michael Rigas re-trail for securities fraud began Monday in federal
court in New York City.

Last July, a jury found Rigas not guilty of wire fraud and conspiracy. Also
last July, a Manhattan jury found Adelphia Communications founder John
Rigas and Michaels' brother, Timothy guilty of conspiracy, securities fraud
and bank fraud.

John Rigas was sentenced in to 15 years in prison, and Timothy was sentenced
to 20 years.

Both are out on bail pending an appeal.

The Warren County public defender has asked for a continuance in the case of
Amy Nichole Niver, who allegedly set a fire that killed her two infant
daughters in May.

New York State Senator Cathy Young on Sunday announced an initiative to
increase public safety at the Zoar Valley Multiple Use Area in northern
Cattaraugus County.
She says for the past few years there has been an average of one death a
year at Zoar Valley, as well as many people suffering serious injuries.
YoungÂ’s initiative involves forming a task force that will examine the
problems facing the recreational area, and developing strategies to solve

6:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police say 25-year-old Heath D. Setzer got into a fight with 51-year-old
Ronald B. Setzer, who sustained a minor neck injury.

An incident of burglary is under investigation in Annin Township.
41-year-old tax collector Janet Causer reports someone broke into her
Turtlepoint home, and stole her personal checkbook and a moneybag.

The moneybag contained several hundred dollars in cash and un-cashed checks
written out to the Port Allegany School District for taxes.

Anyone with information is asked to call State Police in Kane.

A Camp was busted into in Otto Township.
State Troopers report someone entered a camp on Moody Hollow Road owned by
James Lowe, and ransacked the building.

Police say the actors also damaged a shed behind the camp.

A World War II prisoner of war was honored by the Bradford American Legion
Post.

Bradford man Lloyd Fiscus joined the army in 1942, and was captured in
France.

He then escaped in May of 1945.

He was given gifts and recognized by the vets at the Bradford Post 108.

State Police in Emporium would like to advise residents of a letter scam
that could cause identity theft. Letters have been received by some
residents from Loteria Primitiva - Elgordo from Madrid Spain claiming that
the recipient has won a large amount of money. In order for the victim to
claim the money they are asked to contact Lunas Global Security Company S.A.
in Rome Italy. Once contacted the victim is asked to either fax or enter
personal information over the phone. The Victims are informed that the
information will allow them to transfer the money to their bank account.

State Police advise the public not to ever give out personal information
over the phone or by fax. Since these kinds of scams are over seas they
have little to fear as they are outside of the legal jurisdiction of the
United States. The Public should also note that it is Illegal for US
Citizens to enter, purchase or accept winnings from International Loteries.

State Police in Coudersport are reporting several burglaries that happened
sometime either Monday or Tuesday. Five different seasonal homes were
burglarized on East fork road and Bailey Run Road in Wharton Township in
Potter County. State Police are not releasing all of the information due to
the ongoing investigation into the incidences. Anyone with information is
asked to contact the State Police barracks in Coudersport.

After the Helicopter crash near the Bradford regional airport, staffing at
the Cleveland Air Route Traffic Control Center has become an issue.
According to the ARTCC, they were contacted at 11:40pm by the Lifestar
helicopter but did not have any computer operators on duty at the time. A
Traffic Management Unit employee that was not trained to operate the
computer system tried to find the coordinates of the crash sight. Within 30
min of one of the two trained computer operators returning to duty, the
sight was located five hours after the crash. A New computer system being
installed and retiring computer operators were sighted for the under manned
Control Center.

The New system may not be in place until 2009 or even as late as 2011.
Training of new computer operators takes approximately two years according
to the Center's management. The FAA has sighted similar problems across the
nation.

A Custom Knife company that is in the process of moving to Bradford is still
operating despite rumors on the contrary. Microtech Custom Knives Inc. is
still operating and is still waiting on the state incentives it was promised
to secure the relocation from Vero Beach Florida to Bradford. The owner of
Microtech, Anthony Marfione, was reportedly offered a financial package
worth 1.62 million dollars. The Department of Community and Economic
Development contends they are doing all they can to process the applications
for the finances in as timely of a manor as possible.

39-year-old Holly M. Pascale of Port Allegany was charged with harassment
following an alleged incident at 12:45 p.m. yesterday on Brooklynside Road.

State police in Kane say she hit 42-year-old Randall L. Taylor in the head
twice.

Priority Care Ambulance Service owner Brian Gustafson accidentally shot
himself at about 4 p.m. yesterday at his home.
Smethport Police report that Gustafson sustained the wound from a .22
caliber round to his chest.
Gustafson was flown by Mercy Flight helicopter to Hamot Medical Center in
Erie, where he is in stable condition.

Police ruled the incident accidental and there will be no further
investigation.

Local oil producers say outside companies are taking more of an interest in
the Twin Tiers' supply of gas and oil.
At last night's meeting of the New York State Oil Producer's Association,
president Paul Plants said most of the interest has been in Bradford, but
New York's southern tier has also seen increased activity.
John Miller of Belden and Blake, which has many oil fields around Bradford,
says his company in continuing to expand its number of oil wells.

U.S. Air Force Technical Sergeant Jamie Dana will be honored during a parade
and reception November 12 in Hazel Hurst.
26-year-old Dana was injured in June when the armored vehicle she was riding
in hit a roadside bomb near Baghdad.
The parade and reception are being organized by Nina Nogar, long-time
postmaster in Hazel Hurst, and Dana's former babysitter.

State Police responded to an incident of Aggravated Assault in Roulette
Township.

Police arrested 36 year old Kelli Snyder after an argument in the Friendly
Inn parking lot got out of control.

35 year old Colleen Ross of Port Allegany was covered in bruises and
scratches, and suffered broken facial bones after the incident.

Snyder was released on 10 thousand unsecured bail.

A Camp in Clara Township, in Potter County was burglarized sometime in the
past month. State Troopers report that someone forced open a door at the
Topeka Road Camp, and pried off a gas meter, damaging about 30 feet of
copper gas line.

43-year-old Brenda Sue Button of Austin tells police that someone took two
credit cards from her cigarette case.

The cards were used for purchases totaling about 50 dollars at Sheetz in
Port Allegany.

A deer in the road led to an accident at about noon Thursday near the
village of Cross Fork in Potter County.

State police say 23-year-old Jason M. McNellie of Oil City was driving his
pickup truck south when deer entered the roadway.

McNellie's truck traveled along the ditch line of the road before hitting a
concrete drainage culvert.

McNellie wasn't hurt, but his truck was towed from the scene.

An Olean man charged in the death of a Wellsville teen earlier this year was
arrested again Thursday.

44-year-old H. Wayne Morgan was charged with violating terms of his release
after he was allegedly intoxicated at a local bar.

Morgan was originally charged in relation to a hit-and-run incident that
killed 17-year-old Samuel Swift

Morgan is in Allegany County Jail in Belmont, and faces a court hearing.

preliminary job description.

McKean County Commissioner Cliff Lane says the group will be advertising for

A Bradford man pleaded guilty to indecent assault and corruption of minors
for a June incident. 19-year-old Robert Girdlestone admitted that while at a
Forman Street residence, he allowed a 13-year-old girl to fondle him.

Gridlestone will be sentenced by Judge Wolfe on November 23.

A Bradford Father and son were accepted into the accelerated rahab program
in court yesterday. George and Jeffrey Day were arrested in May after Police
arrived at their Kennedy Street home, where Jeffrey Day was attempting to
kill himself. George Day reportedly blocked police from helping his son.

When the younger day was subdued, he reportedly kicked a police officer.

Both men will perform 20 hours of community service.

39-year-old Victor Pearson was charged for selling nearly half a gram of

Safety investigators have still not said what caused the helicopter crash
that claimed the life of a pilot earlier this month.

The National Transportation Safety Board has concluded it's on site
investigation, and all of the chopper's parts were sent to a lab for further
testing to determine what exactly caused the Life Star Helicopter to go
down, killing Erie man Heinz Schultz.

A Portville funeral director charged with fondling a 13-year-old girl
decided he wants his case to go to trial.

46-year-old Richard D. Truesdell rejected a plea bargain Wednesday in
Portville Village Court.

Truesdell pleaded innocent to charges of forcible touching and endangering
the welfare of a child.

He is free on his own recognizance. A trial is scheduled for January 11.

The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford has launched a pilot program this
fall that enables area high school students to earn college credits without
ever having to leave their own schools.

Once students successfully complete the course, they will earn college
credits from the University of Pittsburgh that will be applied to their
college transcript, and in some cases can also be applied as high school
credit.

During the trial period of the program, Pitt-Bradford is offering three
courses: Introduction to Human Communication, Integrated Business
Microcomputing and Intermediate French I.

Two Mount Jewett men were charged with harassment after getting into a fight
on Main Street in the borough.
State police say 28-year-old Chad Berguson and 31-year-old Gordon Eschrich
were arguing, then started pushing and shoving each other.
Eschrich allegedly punched Berguson then left the scene.

The borough of Mount. Jewett now owns the Commercial Hotel on Main Street
and is planning to demolish the condemned building.
The borough has wanted to tear down the building for several years but
didn't want to buy it from previous owner Robyn Lundgren until they had
money for the demolition.
The building won't be torn down until after an asbestos evaluation, but
borough officials don't know how long that will take.

A Bradford man waived his preliminary hearing in front of District Judge
Barbara Boser Wednesday. 21 year-old Bradley Baker is charged with several
misdemeanor offenses, including threatening Wal-Mart support manager, James
Mabary during an incident at the Bradford Wal-Mart in September. Court
documents say Baker punched-out Mabary's office window after an altercation
in the customer service area.

PennDOT officials say the 219 resurfacing project will go out for bid in
December and construction should start in the spring. The four year,
81-million-dollar project will include the complete resurfacing of the
highway and reconstruction of select bridges. Phase one will cover Owens
Way to the Foster Brook Exit, phase two will run from Foster Brook to the
state line. Bids for phase one were supposed to start this month, but have
been pushed back.

A Kane man was killed in head-on crash with a tanker truck near Lantz
Corners last night. An SUV, driven by 63 year old Lawrence Reiner was
traveling down the hill, past Lantz Corners on Route 219 when his vehicle
swerved across the center lane and into the climbing lane where he struck
the rig head-on. Reiner's SUV rolled onto its roof, ending up in the center
lane, while the truck, driven by Keat Haycox of Indianapolis, jack-knifed
across the road. Reiner was not wearing his seatbelt.

A St. Marys man died in a tractor-trailer accident Wednesday morning on
Route 255 in Fox Township.
State Police in Ridgway say Dan Allen Ehrensberger was driving south when
the truck went off the road, up and embankment and rolled over.
Elk County Coroner Lou Radkowski pronounced Ehrensberger dead at the scene.
Police say they are waiting for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

police officer.
In August, Streicher resigned because he accepted a full-time job at
Temple-Inland.
During a special meeting, Mount Jewett Borough Council agreed to bring
Streicher back as a part-time police officer for up to 30 hours a week.

Borough Manager Patrick Nuzzo says it will be "cheaper" for the borough to
own its lights and pay for the electricity through meters.
Before the borough bought the lights, they were owned by Allegheny Power.

Governor Edward G. Rendell today announced a comprehensive Stay Warm PA
program to make sure Pennsylvania's most vulnerable citizens are warm and
protected as cold weather approaches.

Rendell say with increased state funding and increased support from energy
companies and utilities, an additional $30 million will be available this
winter for low-income energy assistance.

Water will temporarily stop flowing over Niagara Falls sometime in the next
several years.
According WIVB dot com, the American side of the Falls will be turned off so
work crews can build a new pedestrian bridge to Goat Island.
The span that's in place now has been declared structurally unsound.
The falls was last shut down in 1969 when the current pedestrian bridge was
built.

Preliminary test results from about 140 birds that died near the Quehanna
Boot Camp in Clearfield County earlier this month, show that the birds died
of trauma, and not from any environmental or health-related causes.

Pennsylvania Game Commission officials say the birds died after colliding
with hard objects such as buildings and towers.

Charges are pending following a one-vehicle crash Monday afternoon north of
Emporium.
State police say a car driven by Clarence J. Wickett of St. Marys went out
of control on Route 46 in Shippen Township, then hit an embankment.

One of Wickett's passengers was taken to Elk Regional Health Center for
treatment of lower back pain.
Police say the investigation is continuing.

Scott Freer says he received the payment and shipped the hard drives but

The Kane Area School Board is faced with the decision of whether or not to
close the Mount Jewett Elementary School.
School District superintendent Sandy Chlopecki, says the district is
concerned with low enrollment at the school.
Two classes have only 10 students each, and there is no kindergarten class
at Mount Jewett this year.
The decline in enrollment may be addressed by a Warren company that is doing
a "facilities option" study for the school district.
The study should be completed by the end of this year or early next year.

winemakers say an unusually rich fruit this year will make some of the best
wine in years.

Police and Game Commission officers were called to a grocery store in Berks
County Monday evening. An eight-point buck left a nearby wooded area, ran
into a tow truck, and jumped through the window of a supermarket in Exeter,
PA.

Witnesses say the buck crashed through the meat counter display case, and
headed back to the bread aisle.

Two Bradford men were arraigned on drug charges after a Tuesday arrest.

City Police arrested 63-year-old Charles Britton for illegal possession of
oxycontin, and tampering with evidence.

40-year-old Ronald Hilliard was arrested for delivery of a controlled
substance, drug possession, and drug paraphernalia possession.

Both men were arraigned b Chris Hauser. Britton was released on his own
recognizance; Hilliard was jailed in lieu of 10 thousand dollars bail.

In an effort to take advantage of a large natural resource in Northcentral
Pennsylvania, a Pitt Bradford Professor is asking or a new program at the
college. Chemistry professor, Dr. David Soriano, has asked for the formation
of a two-year associate degree in wood technology.

That's just one of the ideas that the university could offer to help grow
the marked for the wood industry in the area, which Soriano says is a "gold

Bradford Regional Medical Center will soon receive nearly 100,000 dollars in
federal funding to continue upgrading its information systems.

Congressman John Peterson made the announcement this afternoon.

In late 2003, BRMC started a three-year 3 million dollar information
technology upgrade to improve patient care and increase efficiency.

The new systems will provide new and automated ways for medical center staff
to electronically document patients' vital signs and conditions at various
stages of their stay in the hospital.

State Senator Joe Scarnati is co-sponsoring a bill that will prevent the use
of eminent domain for private business use.

The bill also reforms the definition of blight when the case of eminent
domain comes up.

Scarnati says the bill is a matter of protecting our rights as Americans to
own our homes.

The Allegheny National Forest will undergo an assessment of its management
practices, which could lead to improved management and long-term viability
of forest lands.
SmartWood and PriceWaterhouseCoopers will
review the forest management plan and other relevant documents as well as
carry out field visits to evaluate how well the forest's management
practices measure up to the standards of the two certification systems.
Part of the review will include a public meeting.

The assessment will begin later this fall and take nearly a year to
complete. A final report is expected next summer.

Someone broke the locks of Minard Run Oil's storage containers on Route 59
and removed some equipment sometime over the weekend.

State police said a Honda Deluxe WD 20x, a 4 stroke ditch pump, 2 chain
binders and several tools were stolen.

The McKean County Solid Waste Authority still doesn't know if it will have a
full time recycling coordinator.

During Monday's meeting, one board member suggested hiring a coordinator
with proceeds from the sale of the landfill to Rustick LLC.

Other board members said the authority should wait to see what Rustick wants
to do.

A public meeting has been scheduled to discuss the Area Vocational-Technical
School renovation and expansion project.

A culinary arts program is expected to be added to the school's curriculum
after the expansion is complete.

The Seneca Highlands Intermediate Unit Nine board of directors says the

More than 100 parking meters have been removed from Kane streets, according
to Leroy Hartzell, borough streets superintendent.
Kane Borough Council voted last week to eliminate the meters.

have been filed.

Charges have been filed against 39-year-old Irvin Chase of Eldred after a
Sunday morning incident at the Golden Eagle Bar on Railroad Street in
Eldred.

State police say Chase grabbed 34-year-old Theresa Wilbur by the arms,
causing fear and minor injury.
