Emporium borough council signed a garbage agreement that would service over the next three years at Monday's meeting.
"We will defiantly have two years of cost savings," noted Borough Manager Rob Aversa. "We are guaranteed these rates for three years."
The extended contract with Onyx Waste Management calls the borough to pay $39.90 per ton for residential garbage disposal for the first year. It would increase to $42.33 by the third year.
Emporium's garbage is hauled to the Greentree Landfill, which is owned by Onyx, outside of town by borough employees.
A meeting will be held by the local commissioners on August 10 at the Cameron County Courthouse at 7 p.m. This is to discuss the possible formation of a one county government.
A Coudersport man was arrested in Boyertown PA and arraigned on charges of
molestation. The man was free on bail after being charged with 77 alleged
molestations of boys under 7 in Potter County. 37-year-old Bryan Moyer is
currently in jail awaiting a preliminary hearing. He's charged with indecent
assault and corruption of minors for allegedly groping a seven year old boy.

After allegedly pushing his wife out of a truck in Homer Township, an Austin
man is in jail. Michael Majot has been charged with making terroristice
threats, simple assault, disorderly conduct, harassment, and careless
driving. He's currently in jail in lieu of 8 thousand dollars bail in
relation to the August 1 incident.
Pennsylvania State Senator Joe Scarnati has been appointed as Majority
Deputy Whip for the Senate. According to Senate President Pro Tempore Robert
Jubelirer, the new position will give Scarnati more responsibility and
effectiveness and will also be a benefit to residents of his district, as
the leadership position will help give greater attention to local needs and
priorities.
Three Olean firefighters who took a $13,000 paramedic course had their
request for reimbursement denied by the Olean Common Council's Public Safety
Committee at Tuesday's meeting. The request was dropped after no committee
member moved to approve it. Committee chairman Glenn Van Dixon told Fire
Chief Robert Bell that the issue might be reconsidered at year's end if any
funds remain in the city's budget.
Mt Jewett will be without a policeman for their Annual Swedish Festival.
48-year old Andrew Streicher has resigned his post to take a full-time job
with a local manufacturing company. Streicher declined to name his new
employer. His last day will be Wednesday, August 10. The Swedish Festival
runs from August 12 to 14th. Streicher has held the post for one year,
replacing Anthony Lama Jr of Bradford, who resigned two years ago.
A call of a wildfire Tuesday morning had turned into a structure fire when
Mt Jewett Volunteer Fire Department got on scene. The fire had started at
the side of a garage owned by Bill Smith and worked its way inside.
Firefighters were on scene for just under an hour and managed to prevent all
but minor damage. A tanker truck from Hamlin Volunteer Fire Department was
called in for water. The cause of the fire is still undetermined.
A Bradford native paid a visit home this afternoon as his Air Force training
mission crossed Bradford's sky and surprised several residents. According to
Nancy Sposato, her son Major Richard Sposato was one of two pilots of F-15E
Strike Eagles that did a fly by shortly before 1 p.m. Nancy Sposato said
this is the first time she and her husband have gotten to see their son fly.
Major Sposato flies out of the Seymour-Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro,
North Carolina and is in the area for training.
Traffic Crashes are picking up as the weather stays nice through August.
State Police in McKean County say that in the past 24 hours, they've had
three crashes, and this weekend showed even more.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety says that August 3, 4, and 6 rank
in the Top Ten for the deadliest days for traffic crashes. August is
definitely ranked as the deadliest month.
Police say people get complacent about driving habits when the weather gets
nice. Alcohol use and driving tend to increase in the dog days of August as
well.
Police report that a Kane man was not injured in a crash in Wetmore Township
23 year old Joshua Lindemuth fell asleep while driving along Route 6. He
left the roadway, and while attempting to regain control. Spun the car
around, going over an embankment, disabling his vehicle. Kane Boro Police
and Fire Department Assisted at the scene.
State Troopers are investigating cemetery vandalism in Spring Creek
Township. 16 headstones at the Maxwell Run Cemetery were tipped over this
weekend, and five of them were broken or damaged. Police are urging citizens
with information to contact Elk County Crimestoppers.
It's only up a quarter from yesterday, but its another record high for
American Refining Group in Bradford. The price for Pennsylvania Grade crude
oil is at 59 dollars per barrel, the highest price the company has ever
pulled in for a barrel of crude oil.
A 14-year-old boy chased his father with a butcher knife Monday. State
Police in Ridgway were called after the Philadelphia youth got upset with
his father in Horton Township along Route 219.
Police say the son went into the kitchen, acquired a butcher knife, and
chased and threatened his 38-year-old father, Michael Martin.
The boy was arrested for Aggravated Assault and sent to a juvenile detention
facility until court proceedings.
State Police responded to a crash Tuesday in Otto Township along Route 346.
Police say 60-year-old Jeanne Snyder of Duke Center was not injured when she
lost control of her Ford Taurus.
Police say the woman bent over to pick up a pair of sunglasses when she went
off the roadway and struck a utility pole.
State Police in McKean County have stayed busy this past month. Police
investigated 82 criminal offenses, all of which were founded. 43 arrests
were made. Troopers responded to 28 crashes, 2 of which were DUI. No
fatalities were reported in the county for July.
Police wrote 206 traffic citations, and gave out 311 warnings.
The County Landfill Sale, set to be complete months ago, looks like it could
be delayed again.
President of the purchasing company, Rustick LLC Maria Casey confirmed with
area media outlets Tuesday that some financing issues still need to be
ironed out.
Financing Firm Merrill-Lynch is responsible for the finance of the 17
million dollar purchase. Yet again, they've delayed the process.
Rustick will approach the Solid Waste Authority for an extension at Monday's
meeting.
The McKean County ATV Traction/ Otto Township Volunteer Fire Department Dice
Run is going on this Saturday. Registration will start at 9 a.m. at the fire
hall and run until 1 p.m., with the cost at $15 per machine and $10 for an
extra rider. All those interested must bring their helmets to register. The
ride will cover 35 miles and will include a chance to cross the mud pit,

Otto-Eldred's French class will get to practice their lessons in person. The
School board okayed a trip to France in the fall.
Pennsylvania is a popular place to go to college. According to a USA today
poll, Pennsylvania is the state with the most out of state freshman.
Pitt Bradford has 309 freshman enrolled in the fall semester. 50 of those
are from out of state.
Two 15 year old's were injured in an ATV crash in Potter County. The Summit
Township crashed occurred when the two lost control on a hill, rolling over.
Both teens were thrown from the ATC and transported to the ambulance for
treatment of minor injuries.
Police in Coudersport are investigating an incident of simple assault in
Homer Township last night.
45 year old Kelly Majot reportedly was pushed out of a pick up truck onto
the roadway by 44 year old Michael Majot.
Ms. Majot fled the scene on foot and called police.
A 16-year-old Coudersport boy called police after he heard sounds on his
roof. Police responded at around 2 am last night, and found no one on the
roof. Police ask anyone with information to contact the Coudersport
Barracks.
Port Allegany has resolved issues with the DEP over a sewage problem. The
boro submitted a ten thousand dollar payment on the 425 thousand dollar
fine.
The DEP then granted the boro a permit to the sewage plant.
Police in Otto Township have released the details of the crash that snarled
up traffic as ten thousand people left Duke Center. Police Officer Pat
Warnick says Cory Schimp drove his truck into a parked van belonging to a
Limestone woman. Schimp's truck then traveled into the path of a jeep coming
in the other lane. Smethport's Robert Rittberg was driving the jeep when it
was struck and pushed into another car owned by June Howard. The jeep rolled
over an embankment, and the truck rolled on its side.
No one was seriously injured in the crash.
Police from various municipalities that were no hand all stepped up to
direct traffic through any available routes out of Duke Center, including
re-routing cars on different roads.
Police in Potter County are investigating an incident of criminal mischief
on a back road in Homer Township. 58-year-old Paul Llja says someone broke
his electrical conduit, and cut the wire, using it to run a trap machine.
The suspect also shot a wood building on the property three times. Police
are investigating.
A Ulysses woman was pulled over for DUI Saturday Night. 28 year old Lisa
Soule was stopped along Bailey Hill Road. Charges are pending.
A four-vehicle accident occurred in Otto Township Saturday while the grand
finale of Old Home Day's fireworks were taking place. Three people were
injured in the crash.
Bradford and Foster Township police who were on hand for the fireworks
helped direct traffic as all routes out of Eldred were bottlenecked.
Representative Martin Causer presented a Century Farm award to two locals
Wednesday. Causer gave the award to Ilene Burdick Altenhein and Karl
Altenhien at the Potter County fair in recognition of their farm and their
commitment to Pennsylvania's heritage.
A Bradford man was injured Saturday in the woods behind the Sixth Ward
School. According to police, 43-year old Brian Miller Sr was walking with
two friends when he borrowed a rifle from one friend to shoot at a spider.
The spider was inside a pipe and the shot caused the pipe to explode,
sending pieces of metal into Miller's right hand, left thigh and abdomen.
Miller was treated at Bradford Regional Medical center.
A fire Sunday morning in Eulalia Township caused $100,000 in damage and left
a family homeless. The fire started at just before 4 a.m. at the home of
Robert Elliott and his family. No one was injured in the fire, which was
fought by 35 firefighters from Coudersport, Roulette, Shinglehouse and
Austin. The state police fire marshal has been called in to investigate.

A BBQ grill as reportedly stolen from State Route 49 in Harrison Township
Richard Reigh reports someone stole the grill. State Police are lookgin for
the weenie-roasting thief.
An assault occurred in the village of Roulette. State Police report that
according to a 17 year old female, 43 year old Corilynn Kio slapped,
punched, and threw her to the floor, and 21-year-old Dustin Mahon threatened
her.
All three residents share the same address.
Three people were reportedly injured in a 4-car crash in Otto Township,
about the same time as the fireworks Grand Finale during Otto Eldred's Old
Home Days Saturday Night.
Sources say alcohol was involved in the crash.
No further information is available at this time.
State Police are investigating an attempted theft from Forest Investment
Associated in Smethport, along the South Side of State Route 59 in Keating
Township. Sometime between July 14 and Friday, an unknown person cut down a
veneer cherry tree worth one thousand dollars.
Police say the criminal lumberjack attempted to remove the logs, but was
unsuccessful.
A Roulette man was arrested for a purchase in October at Andy's Guns and
Stuff along Burleson Avenue. 55-year-old Randy Cornelius attempted to
purchase two rifles. Cornelius signed a form from the bureau of Alcohol,
Tobacco and Firearms, having answered two of the questions falsely. Police
took Cornelius into custody last week. HE was arraigned and released on his
own recognizance.
Police also charged Cornelius with perjury and conspiracy for testimony in
an assault trial in 2001.

State Police in Potter County report someone damaged a barricade and two no
parking signs at the Potter County Human Services Office in Roulette,
apparently by unknown skateboarders.
Police remind residents that skateboarding is not permitted on Potter County
Human Services Property.
Police in Kane report a Saturday crash at the Woodhaven Campground in
Corydon Township. 61 year old Carl Gawlinksi of Union city apparently
traveled across Route 59 onto the north berm, impacting a wooden fence,
severely damaging his Chevy Truck.
Pennsylvania state Police in Kane are reporting a five vehicle accident that
occurred on Friday evening. Four vehicles were stopped on State rout 346
near Eldred for a line painting truck. Garry Hoch failed to stop his Grand
AM running into a Jeep driven by Cynthia Murphy, causing a chain reaction.
Murphy was flown to a Buffalo Hospital for head injuries and another driver,
Carolyn Ezzolo, was transported to a local hospital for a minor injury.
Murphy's Condition is unknown at this time.

The Eldred World War II museum will remember the end of World War II with
special exhibits on display for the month of August. On August 6th, the
museum invites all World War II veterans to come share their stories of
where they were on that day in 1945. The stories will be videotaped.
Kane's Streetscape project is almost complete. The underground wiring is in
place and new concrete sidewalks have been constructed. The only piece left
is shedding some light on the subject. Borough officials are awaiting the
delivery of 22 light poles, 11 for each side of Fraley Street. According to
Mike Reed of Bradford, the project inspector, once the poles arrive, it will
take two days to install them.
National Fuel has announced an 8.1% increase in the monthly bill of the
typical residential customer in Pennsylvania. The increase will take effect
Monday and will raise the bill for those using 105,000 cubic feet annually a
little over $9.50. According to Nancy Taylor, the Senior manager of
corporate communications in Erie, the original projected increase was 6.9%,
however, the nationwide increase in market price has caused a larger
increase for customers rates.
A 21-year old Emporium man has been charged with resisting arrest. According
to State police, William Carter failed to cooperate with police while being
taken into custody at 9:40 p.m. Thursday in the Emporium boro. Charges were
