Dr. Larry Grunden, Senior Food Industry Technical Specialist with Penn State
University Technology Assistance Program, is scheduled to speak at the next
meeting of the Food Matrix Group. The meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. on October
19, 2005 and will be held at the Coudersport office of the Potter County
Education Council located at 227 N. Main Street. All interested parties are
encouraged to attend and the meeting is open to the public.
The Food Matrix is a group of local citizens involved in businesses
related to the agriculture and/or food industries interested in expanding
the local economy. The vision of the Food Matrix is to be a community-based
organization committed to the promotion, development, and sustainability of
an entrepreneurial, agricultural, food, and small business centered economy.
Ideas being explored by the Food Matrix include the expansion of the local
farmers' market, a kitchen incubator, retail store, and agri-tourism. The
Food Matrix is always seeking local citizens to become involved in the group
and share their ideas related to the local agricultural and food-based

President Judge John Cleland is off the bench for a while. Court
Administrator Joanne Bly told local media outlets that Cleland broke his jaw
in a horseback riding accident. Judge John Yode4r will over Cleland's
duties while he recovers.

Briefs have been filed on both sides of the case to get convicted cop killer
Timothy Williams a new trial.

McKean County District Attorney John Pavlock and Sam Stretton, the attorney
for convicted murderer Timothy Williams filed briefs outlining the issues in
the case.

Stretton claims the independent testimony of several witnesses shows that
Becky Lucrezi Olsen shot Kane Borough Police officer Steve Jerman, and that
his client deserves a new trial.

Pavlock says that while a defendant is entitled to his day in court,
Williams has had day after day after day.

A Date has been set for the attempted homicide case against a Kane woman.
19-year-old Danielle Gullifer will go to trial October 24 and 25 to answer
charges of stabbing her juvenile boyfriend in the back with a kitchen knife.

An 84-year-old Elk County man has been charged with criminal mischief after
an incident at the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation property in Benezett
Township.

The known actor was apparently seen trying to cut a lock off a gate on
November 28.

It's not clear why the man allegedly tried to cut the lock from the gate.

State Police are investigating a hit and run crash in Keating Township and a
one-vehicle crash in Norwich Township, both of which occurred early
Thursday.
In the first incident, an unidentified vehicle exited Irons Hollow Road at
2:30 a.m. and struck two mailboxes in the yard of Randy Vangor. The damage
was not reported.
State Police are also investigating an accident on State Route 46 at 7:30
a.m., when 19-year old Caleb Salter of Emporium went off the road while
traveling north, came back onto the road and went off the other side,
hitting the guardrails. Salter's 2003 Honda Pilot was disabled in the
accident and had to be towed from the scene.

State Police out of Emporium have released monthly statistics for September.
Troopers investigated 20 criminal offenses and cleared 16 of those, with 29
individuals arrested as a result. State police also responded to six
accidents, with four injuries. Two DUI arrests were made for two DUI related
crashes and 68 traffic citations were issued in September.

Tuesday's apartment building fire in Smethport caused an estimated 30
thousand dollars in damage.
State Police Fire officials say the fire was caused when a construction
worker applied heat to the roof to lay down a rubber-roofing product. The
heat traveled through metal flashing into the structure, where it ignited
material in an inside wall.

No injuries were reported in the fire.

A Limestone Resident will appear in McKean County court to face sex charges.
District Attorney Chris Hauser ruled that there is enough evidence for the
case against 20 year old Justin Spiess to go to trial.

Spiess posted the 5 thousand dollar bail amount set by Hauser.

He's accused of Rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated
indecent assault, and other sex crimes for an alleged incident against a
minor.

PennDOT's Driver's license centers will be closed this Saturday and Monday
in observance of Columbus day. Online services will still be available by
visiting www.dmv.state.pa.us.

State Police pulled over and charged two adults on drug and alcohol charges.

A Trooper utilized a mobile office system to check the license plate of the
suspicious vehicle along Route 219 in Hamlin TWP. and realized the car
belonged to a wanted person.

A Search yielded money and drugs. The car also smelled strongly of alcohol
and marijuana.

Charges are pending toxicology results.

An accused militia leader has been sentenced to 35 months in prison for
hiding guns in the Allegany National Forest. Darrel Sivik stashed 10
unregister5d guns at his home and hunting camp.

Feds say Sivik is the leader of the Bravehart Militia,

A Shinglehouse man is accused of stealing 50 gallons of gasoline in
September.

Laurence Coole of Coudersport tells Police that he believes 19 year old
Matthew Louser entered a rock quarry on Wildcat Road in Sharon Township, and
made off with the gasoline. Charges are pending.

A Bingham teen was injured in an ATV crash Wednesday. The 16 year old
swerved to miss a horse, lost control, rolling the ATV on top of himself. HE
was taken to the hospital for treatment. Summary Charges are pending.

A 13 year old in Roulette has been charged in juvenile court for underage
drinking. State Police assisted Potter County Children and Youth Services
with a case at a Main Street residence, when the 13 year old was found under
the influence of alcohol.

A Portville teacher accused of sodomy and sex abuse has been delayed again.
James Molyneaux's attorney has requested and received a second postponing
of sentencing from Cattaraugus County court judge Larry Himelein.

Molyneaux is appealing his July 19th conviction.

62-year old Molyneaux could receive 50 years in prison.

Don't vote for Kane Councilwoman Leah Guido in November.

Guido says she will not accept another term if she is re-elected. She's
decided to resign her board seat, even though her name appears on the
ballot.

If Guido is elected anyway, Kane Borough council would have a seat to fill
in early 2006.

A judge in Clarion County is trying to bring justice to Goliath.
The mammoth buck reportedly holds the record as the largest whitetail in
history.

Reynoldsville resident Jeff Spence is accused of theft after Goliath was
found at his deer farm, four years after he disappeared from a Clarion
County ranch.

Toxicology results for Coudersport Native Patrick Ryan are still at the lab.

The Erie County Pathology lab is still examining the results.

Ryan's remains were sent to Erie after a physical autopsy by Forest County
Coroner Norman Wimer proved to be inconclusive.

Erie County Pathologist Eric Vey says it's not unusual for results to take
this long in instances where the body has undergone decomposition.

He says tests can usually be done on blood samples of the deceased. In
Ryan's case, liver bile is being looked out for traces of any toxins that
could have led to the Pitt Bradford Graduate's death.

The Ryan family has set up a 10 thousand dollar reward fund to be given to
anyone who provides information that leads to the successful prosecution of
their sons killers.

State Police say foul play is suspected in the September death.

Port Allegany has paid another fine to the Clean Water Fund after heavy
rains in the last month overloaded the sewage treatment plant.

This fine was $650 dollars. Borough Manager Dick Kallenborn advised
council of a $50 million dollar plan from the state to upgrade sewage
treatment facilities that have overload problems.

Could taxes go up in Port Allegany? Borough Manager Dick Kallenborn says his
look at the initial budget work for next year is "not a pretty picture".

Gasoline, Diesel Fuel, and other subsequent increased prices have wreaked
havoc on the budget.

McKean County Commissioners are asking Harrisburg Officials to give the
state a louder voice when it comes to the Continental 1 project.

The project involves building a highway from Key Wet to Canada.

Once the project is completed, the road will run along Route 219, directly
through McKean County and Bradford.

NY State is further along in the process, with work commencing on 219 from
Springville to Ashford Hollow.

Pennsylvania US Representative John Peterson has written an open letter to
Florida residents in response to recent opposition to his proposal to ease
restrictions on drilling off the Outer Continental Shelf. Peterson says that
the drilling will not be an environmental issue but going on without it will
hurt tourism in Florida as high prices for heating and cooling homes will
continue to hurt the rest of the US.

All charges levied against a Roulette Couple were dropped before the
District Judge in a hearing last week.

The Potter Leader Enterprise in Coudersport reports that charges of perjury,
criminal conspiracy, and false swearing against Randy and Mary Cornelius
were dismissed.
The charges were in relation to a 2002 trial when Randy was convicted of
simple assault.
The Cornelius's attorney, Sam Stretton pulled for the dismissal of the
charges.

District Attorney Jeff Leber filed the charges ironically about the same
time that Stretton filed briefs to the Supreme Court for the couple.

A Smethport man called State Police after someone stole a car stereo from
his girlfriend's car. The stereo was valued at $845 dollars.

Police continue to search for leads in the Sunday theft.

The US Department of Agriculture has announced that loan limits have been
raised for the Single Family Housing program.

McKean County's new loan limit is 151 thousand dollars to build or by a home
in the county.

Applicants must have good credit to qualify for the loans.

A Smethport man has been charged with fleeing and eluding police after he
refused to pull over for a State Trooper in Keating Township.

Police say 42-year-old Terry Isadore was placed in jail Friday night after
he refused to pull over for a traffic stop.

Isadore's car had a burnt out headlight.

A Coudersport woman and a 4 year old wear injured in an accident Saturday in
Hebron Township. Police say 27 year old Heidi Honey became distracted by her
two children, and went over an embankment, rolling over he Jeep Cherokee.
Honey received minor injuries, which were untreated.

Both children were taken to Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, her 4 year old
received minor injuries.

Police determined Honey to be Driving Under the Influence. Charges have been
filed.

The Cameron Elk and McKean Mental Health Joinder has finally separated.
Saturday was the first day of the formation of the McKean County Department
of Human Services. Administrator Charlotte Chew-Sturm says that 2 thousand
people in McKean County will be affected by the change.

The October 1st deadline has been dreaded by Cameron and Elk Counties, who
relied on McKean County to keep provider costs low.

A Potter County man was arrested for lying in the road.
Justin Tubbs was found lying along State Route 449 near the Village of
Genesee.

Police say Tubbs was drunk, and when questioned he began yelling
obscenities. His foul language continued when ambulance personnel arrived.

This coming Saturday will honor Kane as the "Icebox of Pennsylvania"
The Historic Train Depot will be the scene of the celebration. Event
Organizers have dubbed the event a "Party Like There's Snow Tomorrow".

The fall send-off party will be held October 8th.

Local legend says that throughout history Kane has received snow at least
once during every month of the year.

Senator Joe Scarnati will host his 3rd Annual Kid Fest Saturday at the Sport
and Fitness Complex at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. The event
will include exhibitors, a magician and entertainment from the Erie Zoo. It

formation of a website meant to protect consumers by keeping them alerted to
fraud.

109 National Guard Soldiers from the Bradford and Ridgway area are coming
back from the gulf coast this week. Staff Sergeant Gerner at the Bradford
Armory says the troops will return to the armory Thursday, and will be
released to go home Saturday.

The soldiers were dispatched to Louisiana to help out with the devastation
caused by Hurricane Katrina.
