The Knox and Kane railroad, that formerly took tourists across the Kinzua Viaduct is now filing suit against the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

The train company has filed the suit to recover lease payments that were left un-refunded after the bridge’s condition became unsuitable for the train to cross.

McKean County Commissioners plan to enact a county wide burning ban. Commissioners announced Wednesday that they will hold a special session Friday at noon to enact the ban. The decision comes on the heels of a rare Red Flag warning from the national weather services. A week or two without rain, coupled with dead grasses and leaves from last fall, and whipping winds have created dry conditions perfect for wildfires.
Officials have already asked that people refrain from burning refuse or campfires. The ban would prohibit such burning, and probably slap a fine on violators.

State representative Martin Causer and State Senator Joe Scarnati voted against a measure to place an issue on the public ballot, though an overwhelming majority of state congressmen voted to leave matter to the voters.
The resolution is to determine if the state should borrow 625 million dollars to go toward environmental clean up and land conservation. Scarnati and Causer both said the budget is extremely tight, and that the money should be used for other things.

Causer says he’s concerned the money would go toward the state buying more land.Scarnati was the only senator to vote against the resolution.
