Flowers in the Valley closed its shop in Emporium today, noting that they will only be obligated to help with weddings.

Business partner Brent Simpson said that he wishes he could stay open, but he is glad that he got to serve the community residents.

Take Two Video, Two Knots, and Mr. Dee's Hot Dug Hut have also closed shop. Sue Ann's Gifts will be soon follow.

Emporium's Rob Aversa has been granted permanent status as Borough Manager.
The Desert Storm vet has been on the job, serving a probationary term since
last June. Aversa announced at this weeks meeting that he's been successful
in pulling in a 20 thousand dollar downtown revitalization grant for
Emporium

A Kane man was arraigned before District Judge Barb Boser on charges of
theft. Police responded to the Peking Wok on Fraley Street in Kane where
20-year-old Glenn Boatman allegedly stole a purse.

A works at the restaurant says she found her purse in a trashcan in the
restroom, minus 75 dollars in cash, and her ID and credit card.

Police said Boatman removed the money from his shoe, and told police he took
it.

He was jailed after he could not post 1 thousand dollars bail.

Boatman was recently released from McKean County jail after serving 30 days
for stealing a car.

State Representative Kathy Rapp has scheduled a luncheon this Saturday to
honor the Kane based soldiers who recently returned from Iraq (e-rock).
Members of Detachment one company B of the 728th Main Support Battalion of
the Pennsylvania Army National Guard will be honored Saturday at the Kane
Armory. The luncheon will begin at 11 a.m.

State Police out of Kane are looking for the person responsible for a
vehicle theft sometime earlier this month. Norman Nelson of Kane reported
that someone stole his vehicle from his home on Wetmore Road, drove it a
mile away and smashed all the windows in it, causing several hundred dollars
in damage. The vehicle was then abandoned. Anyone with information is asked
to contact the Kane-based State Police.

The DEP has approved a McKean County Municipal waste plan, at long last. The
final version of the plan took five years to complete, and bears little
difference to the last plan.

This time. though, municipalities reserve the right to transport garbage to
dumps outside county lines. The McKean County commissioners are expected to
approve the plan at the August Meeting.

McKean County Commissioner John Egbert says the plan to ire a new leader of
Emergency services is on hold. Egbert says 19 candidates are being
considered for the job, ad commissioners could not come to a consensus.

Egbert says they might wait a year before hiring. The Pennsylvania Emergency
Management Agency recommended the county have one Emergency organization,
with a director of both 911 and emergency services.

The identity of a man that survived a forty-foot drop into water off of a
cliff in Liberty Township has not been released. According to reports, the
man fell of a 40-foot bank off Coleman Mills Road. He was flown by medical
helicopter to Altoona Hospital. Firemen and medics from Port Allegany, and
Coudersport assisted at the scene.

Rolling Rock Beer announces today that all active duty and reserve military
personnel are invited to attend the Rolling Rock town Fair concert as
honored guests on Saturday August 6. The lineup will include Rusted Root,
the Juliana Theory, Live, and other bands.

Rolling Rock marketing director Ronnie Tucker says the invitation is
extended to thank the men and women of the armed forces.

The Olean man charged with last weeks fatal stabbing of Kurtis Billingslea
will have his case presented before a Grand Jury.

29 year old Tyrone Malone waived his right to a preliminary hearing
Thursday. As of yet, no date for the grand jury to hear the case has been
set, as the case is still under investigation.

Witnesses reportedly heard several voices at the time and location of the
murder. Police only released one suspect, and it's not clear if any other
suspects are sought in the case.

The village of Roulette is about to get their skate park. A Groundbreaking
ceremony was held earlier this month as crews began turning the old
playground into a skate park. Roulette Township Supervisors have published
a public notice that they will begin accepting bids for the pouring of a 60
by 100 foot concrete pad for the park.

The Air Force Security Police Association reports on their website a joyous
reunion in Washington.

Hazel Hurst native Sergeant Jamie Himes Dana is currently recovering from a
bomb blast in Walter Reed Medical Center. Dana, who served as a dog handler
in Iraq, was reunited with her German Shepherd REX in the hospital. Rex was
injured in when the bomb went off as well.

A Cattaraugus County jury has convicted James Molyneaux in a sexual abuse
case. The jurors returned a guilty verdict following a week long trial.

Molyneaux was found guilty of two counts of first degree sodomy and two
counts of second degree sodomy in incidents involving two boys a few years
ago.

The former Portville teacher and Boy Scout leader faces a maximum 25 years
in prison.

A free bicycle safety program will be held at the Otto-Eldred Elementary
School this Friday. The program, for children ages 4 to 14, will begin at
12:30 p.m. The program is being held by the McKean County 4-H program and
PennDOT's Highway Safety Program.

U.S. Representative John Peterson has issued a statement on the President's
nomination of Judge John Roberts, Jr. to serve as an Associate Justice on
the Supreme Court. According to Peterson, President Bush has chosen well in
his nomination of Buffalo native Roberts for the seat left open by the
retirement of Sandra Day O'Connor. Peterson hopes the confirmation process
for Roberts is fair and dignified.

Although most people are hoping snow is a long way off, The Pennsylvania
Game Commission is thinking hunting season. Executive Director Vern Ross
issued a reminder today that antlerless deer license applications will be
accepted beginning August 1st for Pa residents and August 15th for
non-residents.
Antlerless deer license applications will be sent to the Game Commission via
22 different Post Office boxes and the agency, in turn, will forward them to
county treasurers for processing.

Rep. Martin Causer presented the Potter County Education Council (PCEC) with
a $5,000 grant to enhance its Jail to Jobs Program Wednesday. The Jail to
Jobs Program provides individuals on probation or incarcerated the
opportunity to receive training in the information technology field. The
program was started last year with nine individuals involved and seven of
those currently hold jobs in the telecommunication industry, according to
PCEC Executive Director Helene Nawrocki.

A Shinglehouse man was charged after a car and bicycle accident Tuesday on
North Union Street in Olean. 39-year old Terry Amidon was charged with
driving without an inspection certificate and passing a stopped vehicle for
the accident, which involved a bicycle ridden by 44-year old Vincent Pringle
of Olean. Pringle was taken to Olean General Hospital and treated for a leg
injury.

An Allegany man has been charged with second-degree harassment for biting
someone. 20-year old Zachary McLaughlin was charged Tuesday just before
midnight by Olean City Police for biting the arm of Mary McGovern, a nurse
at Olean General Hospital.

Sheriff Elect Brad Mason has been hired as a part time deputy. The Bradford
Township Police officer that recently ran unopposed in the primaries for the
post is working to transport prisoners on court days in Smethport.

Sheriff Donald Morey says they needed someone part time, ad since Mason is
soon to take the reigns as sheriff, the decision to hire him just made
sense.

His part time duties only require a few hours one day a week.

An East Smethport woman called police to report an incident of harassment.
80-year-old Mary Johnson says on Sunday night, someone drove by her house
and waved at her, while yelling her name. She says the person drove by
later, and repeated the waving and yelling.

The 80-year-old woman called State Police in Kane, who have asked for anyone
with information to give them a call.

Two Port Allegany residents were injured in a crash Wednesday evening.
Nathaniel Howard pulled his Dodge Intrepid directly into the path of Tennile
Daugherty at the intersection of Route 6 and Lower Grimes in Liberty
Township Both vehicles sustained major damage, and both drivers were taken
to Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport for treatment of minor
injuries.

A Falls Creek woman reported her purse stolen from the Wanderfest Club in
Lafayette Township. Monika Irwin told State Police that her purse,
containing her driver's license, and several bankcards, and 17 dollars in
cash was stolen.

Police arrested a Port Allegany man along Sartwell Creek Road in Roulette
Township. 31-year-old Roger Green was stopped Tuesday night for driving an
ATV on a road not legal for ATV's, when police determined him to be DUI.
Charges are pending.

Wednesday. State Police say someone kicked in the door, and stole 80 candy
bars, 8 cases of soda, and 10 packs of sunflower seeds and peanuts. He

The Cameron County School District is still looking to fill two positions at the high school. The English teacher position received 13 applications, while Business teacher received three applications. Interviewing took place today and will continue throughout next week. The district is also looking for advisors to fill after school clubs and sports.

McKean County Prison is overcrowded, and Dennis Luther says many of the
inmates have mental health problems.

A growing state trend to de-institutionalize mental patients has pushed more
mentally ill people to end up in jail.

Luther says a county based task force is looking into ways to keep those
with mental health and mental retardation problems from winding up in the
penal system.
It's a financial move. Once a person is sentenced to jail, the county
becomes responsible for all medical and dental costs, even if the prisoner
was previously covered by Medicaid.
ON average, 215 dollars per person is forked over by the count on a monthly
basis...
37 percent of inmate pharmacy bills go towards psychotropic, or mood
altering drugs such as tranquilizers.
44 percent inmates are receiving psychotropics in McKean County.

A Westfield man was cited for disorderly conduct early Saturday morning.
Police say 21-year-old Brandon Tuttle threw bottles toward a group of
juveniles on Main Street in Harrison Valley, when one of the bottles broke
and hit two 14 year old girls in the back and face.

A Marienville man was injured near the Denton Hill Ski area in Potter County
Sunday night. 21-year-old Jason Andring ran his 2005 Yamaha R6 motorcycle
into a deer. He was wearing a helmet, and sustained minor injuries.

State Police out of McKean County are investigating a theft from Mt. Tabor
Cemetery in Wetmore Township. Unknown suspects stole an American Flag from a
burial plot at Mt. Tabor Cemetery. The 3 x 5 flag, and it's 80 foot hoisting
rope were taken sometime between Friday and Monday. Anyone with information
is asked to contact State Police.

If suspects are found, they could be charged with desecration or dale of
venerated objects.

Indecent assault charges are pending against a Coudersport man stemming from
incidents involving a minor in the past two years. Bryan Moyer is also
charged with endangering the welfare of children and 1 count of corruption
of minors. He is accused of committing a sexual act on a 7 year old.
Preliminary hearing is set for tomorrow in Coudersport. Moyer was charged
last year with multiple counts of sexual abuse involving boys under five
while he was paid to be a foster parent.

A Ulysses woman has been sentenced to jail on charges of child endangerment
after the death of her two-year-old daughter. Arlene Haines will spend up to
two years in jail, and then 18 months probation. Williams was charged for
continuing to live with her boyfriend Clinton Watson, after he had abused
her children. Haines youngest child, Serena Powell was killed after being
severely abused by Watson. He's currently serving 12 to 25 for her death.

A Pennsylvania law that allowed for the state's District Attorney Positions
to be full time could have a huge impact across the state. McKean County
District Attorney John Pavlock hasn't decided whether he'll take advantage
of the new law. A Full time DA would be barred from holding a private
practice. Pavlock says he has a vested interest in his civil practice in the
firm of Mattie and Alfieri, and he plans to make a decision soon.

Potter County DA Jeff Leber says it's about time PA authorized Full Time
DA's, but as he makes his way out of officer after losing to Dawn Fink, says
he doesn't "have a dog in this fight" anymore.

The hot humid weather may be uncomfortable for humans, but the corn crop
sure likes it.
The Potter McKean Cameron Farm Service Agency says that this years hot and
humid weather is great for the areas corn crop.
While large livestock, and their food source.. hay, are not fairing so well,
with dairy production down a bit this summer,
Local farmers say this years corn has matured quickly, much better than it
has in the past few years.

An Emporium woman has been charged after a fight Friday morning. State
Troopers say 36-year-old Jamie Causer assaulted 30-year-old Randall Main and
31 year old Sheila Causer during a confrontation.

Olean City Police are looking for an Olean man after a stabbing death last
week. Police issued a BE ON THE LOOK OUT message last night for Tyrone
Malone. Malone is wanted in connection with the murder investigation. 30
year old Kurtis Billingslea was stabbed to death in the parking lot next to
Catholic Charities along West State Street last week.

Police say Malone should be considered armed and dangerous. He's described
as six feet tall, and 225 pounds, driving a 97 maroon GMC Truck.

A 16 year old from Austin, PA crashed along Gross Hollow Road in Potter
County. The 16-year-old girl skidded through an intersection, lost control
of her 2005 Chevy Equinox, and went over an embankment, striking a cluster
of trees.

Police say the girl was not injured in the crash.

State Police in Kane are reporting that a 15-year-old boy has been charged
with Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse. The Eldred by has been charged
with the sexual assault of a 5-year-old female in September of last year.

A Smethport entered a no contest plea in Court yesterday. 32-year-old
Michael Masters entered a guilty plea on charges of retail theft and drug
violations. The DA's office says Masters entered the Kane Dollar General
Store in March, and took 85 dollars of cold, allergy, and sinus medications
from the store.

Us Air Force Tech Sergeant Jamie Himes Dana will be awarded the Purple
Heart.
Dana is off a respirator after being seriously injured in a bomb blast in
Iraq. The Hazel Hurst Native is currently in Walter Reed Medical Center
recovering from the injuries. She says she wants to be able to stand up and
wear her uniform to the awarding of the Purple Heart ceremony, so it could
take a bit for her condition to approve enough to make possible.

A Kane man will be charged following a DUI-related accident Tuesday in Elk
County. 35-year old Kevin Dinger was traveling south on State Route 66 when
he lost control of his vehicle, went off the road and the vehicle rolled
onto its roof. Dinger was taken to Kane Community Hospital for treatment of
minor injuries and a blood alcohol content test. Charges are pending the BAC
results.

Judge John Clelland heard testimony this morning in the case of Cory Chase
versus Eldred Boro in McKean County Court. The majority of the battle was
over the cutting of trees on the Chase property which was a natural barrier
and is now causing baseballs to come onto the Chase property from the
baseball field and has damaged a power lawnmower and a windshield. After
hearing testimony from both sides in the long battle, Judge Clelland's
decision will be forthcoming.

The Coudersport man convicted in the 1999 shooting of Kane Police officer
Steve Jerman has been moved to a maximum security prison. 25-year old
Timothy Williams, who was sentenced to 22 to 40 years for the death of
Officer Jerman, is now being held in SCI-Huntingdon. No reason has been
given for the transfer.
Williams has attempted to get a re-trial, but the case was stalled while
waiting for the notes from testimony to become available.
